Shaquille O'Neal

Shaquille O'Neal
It speaks to an icon's level of fame if they're instantly recognisable by the mere utterance of their first name. Everyone knows who LeBron is. Cristiano, Serena, Tiger, Roger – you can picture them all instantly. Then there's Shaq. Very few players in all the NBA's history have shone as bright or stood as tall as Shaq. Then again, he is seven-foot-one. During a 19-year career in the NBA the New Jersey-born powerhouse played for six teams, including the Orlando Magic, for whom he was the first overall pick in the 1992 draft and the Rookie of the Year in '93. Upon departing for the LA Lakers, Shaq three-peated from 2000 to 2002 before a fourth title in Miami in 2006. The League MVP in 2000 was honoured individually over and over again and is one of only three players to win NBA MVP, All-Star game MVP and Finals MVP awards in the same year. Just as much a legend off the court as he was on it, Shaq is a name synonymous with US basketball.
