What is TripleLockā„¢?

TripleLock™ is Icons' new market-leading system that revolutionises signed memorabilia authentication. TripleLock™ combines three cutting-edge technologies to guarantee the authenticity of every piece of TripleLocked memorabilia. With TripleLock™ technology, Icons is the first and only signed memorabilia company to provide an individual signing photo for each signed item as well as proof of the exact date and location from which every signature is obtained.

Please Note: TripleLockā„¢ is new to Icons.com. For now, only certain products are authenticated with this technology. These items can be identified with the TripleLockā„¢ seal overlaid on the top right of a product's main image. This does not mean items sold on Icons.com that are not TripleLocked cannot be trusted as authentic ā€” only that they do not carry TripleLockā„¢ technology.

What Are The Three Locks?

Lock 1

Near Field Communication (NFC) Tag

An embedded encrypted NFC tag provides instant verification of a product on any smartphone. Simply tap your phone on the tag to access the complete authentication record of your product via a secure online portal verified by Crane Authentication, the world leader in secure product verification. Learn more about NFC tag technology here.

 

Lock 2

Certificate of Authenticity (COA)

Every TripleLocked item comes with a Certificate of Authenticity that contains provenance information, signing details, and item history. Each COA includes a unique code linking the physical certificate with the product's digital record. It also shows a unique photo of the exact moment the product was signed. This is date-stamped and geolocated.

 

Lock 3

Tamper-Proof Hologram

Featuring micro-printing and light-reactive elements, our unique and impossible-to-replicate holograms are applied to each and every TripleLocked product. An exact twin of the hologram is placed on your COA and the unique code on both is stored digitally, forever linking the product, COA, and digital record — TripleLocking it forever.

How Does NFC Authentication Work?

1 ā€“ Find the NFC tag

Your TripleLockā„¢ product includes a discreet NFC tag. Each NFC tag has a unique code that is recorded when we dispatch your order. A delivery slip included with your product shows the location of your tag plus a link to video explainers.

2 ā€“ Tap with your phone

Hold the top of your phone near the tag. Most modern phones read NFCs automatically with no app required. Once scanned, you'll see a notification to open your authentication page in your phone's browser.

3 ā€“ See your exact item verified

The page instantly confirms your item is genuine ā€” not just one of the same kind, but the exact shirt, boot or print you own. And, for the first time in history, you're shown an image of your exact product at the very moment it was signed.

Step 1

Sign With An Icon

We work directly with all our icons to undertake controlled signing sessions at which we can ensure every signature obtained is 100% authentic. Signings are organised and carried out in private, attended only by our trusted staff members. We never accost players at matches, outside training grounds, or in airport terminals, and we never buy memorabilia from the public. We photograph and video every TripleLock™ signing session, making sure to capture each individual item as it is signed. 

 

Step 2

Secure Verification

In order to create TripleLock™ we partnered with Crane Authentication. Crane are the world's best product authentication specialist and have developed an NFC and digital system that applies uncompromising levels of verification. Every Triplelocked item is backed by signing photos and real-time videos from each session and all the details are locked in a digital record.

 

Step 3

Apply TripleLock™ Authentication

Each and every TripleLocked item receives a physical COA with a tamper-evident hologram and a unique serial number with a twin of the hologram on the COA is attached to the product itself. We then add an NFC tag with encrypted, un-tamperable software backed by Crane Authentication. An individual, unique signing photo of your exact product is shown both online and on the COA, creating a secure digital record that ties and links all these unique elements together.

We partner with Crane Authentication, leaders in secure product verification. Crane's technology is trusted worldwide for currency, government and brand protection — now powering the next generation of Icons authentication. Crane's cryptographic security ensures that every NFC tag is unique, encrypted, and prohibitively difficult to clone. This is the same technology protecting billions of dollars in currency and critical infrastructure worldwide.

Q: Do all Icons products have TripleLock™ technology?
A: TripleLock™ is new to Icons.com. For now, only certain products are authenticated with this technology. These items can be identified with the TripleLock™ seal overlaid on the top right of a product's main image. This does not mean items sold on Icons.com that are not TripleLocked cannot be trusted as authentic — only that they do not carry TripleLock™ technology.

 

 

Q: How will I know if an item on Icons.com has TripleLock™ technology?
A: TripleLock™ items can be identified with the TripleLock™ seal overlaid on the top right of a product's main image. For the time being, we are clearly identifying any product that has TripleLock™ technology associated to it with a line in the product's description.

 

 

Q: Will TripleLock™ products take longer to dispatch?
A: As of November 2025, please allow up to ten working days for the dispatch of our new TripleLock™ products. These exclusive items come with all-new TripleLock™ technology, therefore additional preparation time is needed to ensure they meet our authentication standards.

 

 

Q: Will TripleLock™ products still dispatch worldwide?
A: Of course! We ship all over the world, however to find out for sure if we can get your order to you, click the “Add to Cart” button on the items you wish to purchase then proceed to the Shopping Cart page. Just below the breakdown of the products you have in your cart, there is an Estimate Shipping section. There you will find a dropdown list of countries to which we are able to ship. TripleLock™ does not affect our ability to ship internationally.

Q: Where is the NFC tag located?
A: Placement varies by product to keep it secure and discreet. An informative guide on where to locate your NFC tag will be included with your order. If you don't get a guide with your order, get in touch with our Customer Support team and we'll point out where to find the tag.

 

 

Q: Do I need an app for this to work?
A: Nope! Just tap with any modern smartphone and it should work fine. You don't even need to open your camera like you would for a QR code, just tap your device to the tag and you should get a notification leading you to your secure webpage.

 

 

Q: My phone didn't read the tag — what now?
A: Enable NFC in your phone settings and try again with the top edge of your device held against the tag for 2-3 seconds. If this still doesn't work, contact customersupport@icons.com and we'll help.

 

 

Q: What if I don't have an NFC-enabled phone?
A: You can still verify using the hologram security features, digital certificate number on our website, or by checking your individual signing photo code.

Q: Can I see my individual signing photo publicly?
A: No. Once you've purchased your product, the corresponding signing photo will only be available through your secure verification page. This is for security and authenticity reasons.

 

 

Q: What happens if the hologram or NFC tag is damaged or tampered with?
A: Your physical and digital certificate remain valid and accessible. The individual signing photo also provides permanent proof of authenticity. If a tag is cloned or tampered with, Crane's platform detects the issue and your unique verification page will show a clear warning. Contact customersupport@icons.com for re-authentication services if needed.

 

 

Q: Can the authentication be transferred?
A: Yes. When you sell your item, the authentication record transfers to the new owner while maintaining its complete history and provenance.

 

 

Q: Is my data secure?
A: Absolutely. All authentication records are encrypted and stored on secure servers with blockchain verification for permanent, tamper-proof records. Crane Authentication provides military-grade cryptographic security.
