Until very recently, Portugal's finest hour had come at the 1966 FIFA World Cup when, thanks to one of the nation's greatest ever players, Eusebio, the team finished third. Wind the clock forward fifty years and, led by global superstar and footballing phenomenon in Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal were crowned kings of Europe with a stunning triumph at UEFA EURO 2016. Ronaldo, the country's leading goalscorer and appearance-maker, is doubtless the team's inspirational figurehead, upon whom Portugal can rely to bring success at the highest level. He is joined by the likes of Luis Figo, Rui Costa, João Pinto and, of course, Eusebio in the upper echelons of Portuguese footballing folklore.
