Juan Mata built a remarkable career through his creativity, technical quality and intelligence on the ball, establishing himself as a hugely popular figure for club and country. After making his name with Valencia, the Spanish playmaker moved to English football where he would enjoy memorable spells with both Chelsea and Manchester United while collecting major honours at domestic, European and international level.
Mata was part of Spain's historic squad that became world champions for the first time in 2010, earning a World Cup winners' medal at just 22 years of age.
