Gordon Strachan

Gordon Strachan
"Velocity." That was Gordon Strachan's riposte when asked for "a quick word" by a reporter. Witty, bold and brilliant, it was a one-liner (nay, a one-worder) that summed up what Gordon Strachan is all about. As a player he won the final First Division title before it transformed into the Premier League in 1992. That success with Leeds United followed two Scottish titles north of the border with Aberdeen and an FA Cup under Ron Atkinson at Manchester United. He was an aggressive yet skilful midfielder known for scampering around the pitch at great speed. His football IQ lent him naturally to coaching and, armed with that quick wit of his, he has to date managed five clubs from Coventry to Scotland via Southampton, Celtic and Middlesborough.
