Trevor Francis

Trevor Francis
Trevor Francis will be forever remembered as the 'Million Pound Man', the first player to fetch such a fee on the transfer market. Francis began his career with Birmingham City and in eight prolific years with the Blues, notched well over 100 league goals. Already a regular in the England squad, his goals in the Midlands brought him to the attention of Brian Clough, then at the helm at league champions Nottingham Forest. Clough was impressed enough to smash the transfer record and usher in the era of seven figure signings. Trevor helped fire Forest to the European Cup in 1979 but after an injury hit few seasons, transferred to Manchester City and then on to Sampdoria. One of the few English players to succeed in Serie A, Fabio Capello has described him as the "best Englishman to have played in Italy." Trevor has gone on to manage a number of Premier League sides, but has never hit the dizzy heights of his playing career.
