Marcel Desailly

A formidable defensive midfielder turned solid centre-back, Marcel Desailly conquered the world with his French compatriots as Les Blues swept to 1998 FIFA World Cup glory on home soil then triumphed two years later at UEFA EURO 2000. With over 130 appearances for each of Nantes, AC Milan and Chelsea, the man they called 'The Rock' also won a UEFA Champions League title with Marseille. Switching to AC Milan a year later would bring him a second UEFA Champions League victory in as many years while he also won Serie A in the most fruitful period of an excellent club career. Now a pundit, Desailly is considered one of the finest French defenders of all time, noted for his confidence on the ball, his physical presence and outstanding ability to read the game.
