Gordon Banks
Geoff Hurst took most of the headlines in 1966 but Gordon Banks kept an amazing seven clean sheets to help England to World Cup glory. It took the great Eusebio to beat Banks for the first time in the dying minutes of the semi-final and even then it was only from the penalty spot. Capped 73 times for the Three Lions, Banks is widely regarded as the greatest keeper England has ever produced. Anyone in doubt of that should watch his 'Save of the Century' in the 1970 World Cup when he appeared to defy the laws of physics to keep out a header from Pele.
