On 25 May 2005, Didi Hamann wrote himself into Liverpool history. A starring figure in the Reds' last European Cup win, the German international came on after 46 minutes, replacing Steve Finnan as Rafa Benitez sought to overturn a 3-0 deficit with a more attacking set up. Unbelievably, within 15 minutes Liverpool were level again. In the resulting penalty shoot out, Hamann scored with incredible cool. Now a respected pundit, appearing on Match of the Day among other TV football shows, the midfielder is still loved by Kop fans.
