Colourful and controversial, yet outrageously skilled and sublimely talented, Diego Maradona is quite simply one of the most iconic players to have graced the game. In his native Argentina, 'El Diego' has achieved almost mythical status as the captain of the legendary 1986 FIFA World Cup-winning team. But it's not just in his homeland where Maradona is beloved. Wherever football is played, his name is synonymous with everything that is exciting about the game. The legendary number ten won a plethora of personal awards in the mid to late 1980s, as well as the FIFA Player of the Century award in 2000. In 2002, his iconic goal against England in the 1986 FIFA World Cup was voted FIFA Goal of the Century. Has there ever been a player with such a glorious blend of off-the-field character and on-the-field brilliance?
