There are few players held in higher esteem by fans of Blackburn Rovers than Tugay. The former Turkish international came through the youth system at Galatasary, winning six league titles, before transferring to Glasgow giants Rangers. He stayed only one full season at Ibrox before making the switch south of the border to join Graeme Souness' Rovers in 2001.
It was here that he quietly carved out a reputation as a stealthy, effective and highly intelligent midfielder. He was equally at home policing the backline as a holding player or in a more advanced role. His range of passing and quick train of thought ensured that he could keep playing until his late thirties, at which point he was still the focal point of the Blackburn side.
During his time in Blackburn, Tugay lifted the League Cup (2002) but his honours came mainly in the form of compliments, adoration and the testimonies of those around him. Indeed, such was his admiration for the diminutive Turk, Sir Alex Ferguson remarked that had Tugay been ten years younger, he would have snapped him up for United. He called time on his career in 2009 in front of a packed Ewood Park and he'll always be remembered as a true great for Blackburn, Galatasary and Turkey.
