Newcastle United

When Kevin Keegan first picked up the managerial reins at Newcastle in 1992, the club were dangerously close to relegation from the old Division Two, but he managed to turn their fortunes around and, the following season, Newcastle were taken into the new Premier League as Division One champions. They finished third in their first season and second the following year after narrowly losing out to Manchester United. The pain of missing out on the Premiership crown was eased somewhat with the arrival of Alan Shearer, who signed for £15 million, a world record at the time. Shearer is still the club's top goalscorer with 206 goals.
