Marco van Basten

Three-time European Footballer of the Year and World Footballer of the Year in 1992, Marco van Basten is one of the most celebrated Dutch footballers of all time. Though many will immediately associate him with his marvellous volley in the final of the European Championships of 1988, Van Basten's glittering career has been decorated with a number of titles and honours for both club and country. Teaming up with fellow countrymen Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard at AC Milan, Van Basten won back-to-back European Cups in 1989 and 1990 while securing the Serie A title three times during his stint at the San Siro. A three-time Eredivisie winner with Ajax, Van Basten is among Europe's most famous forwards and is respected the world over for his achievements in what was a relatively short career.
