No American is more important to soccer in the United States than LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan. Approaching 150 caps and with close to 50 goals for his country, the 30-year-old forward is the USA’s most capped player and their all-time leading scorer.
David Beckham may be the man who grabs international headlines at LA Galaxy, but Donovan has a great reputation both at home and abroad. His goals and assists for LA Galaxy have helped him pick up two MLS Cups and two MLS Supporters’ Shields since signing for Galaxy from German side Bayer Leverkusen in 2005.
Donovan made his full USA debut in 2000, having made his way through the youth teams. His talent was well known in the national team set-up from a young age, having scored 35 goals in 41 games for the U-17 side.
Donovan made his World Cup bow at 2002, and his energetic performances landed him the Best Young Player of the tournament award as the USA reached the quarter-finals. He was also a key figure in their 2006 and 2010 World Cup squads.
Donovan enhanced his reputation in Europe with two successful loan spells at Premier League side Everton. The first in 2010, and the second in 2012. He helped the Toffees finish both seasons strongly on each occasion before returning to the MLS with LA Galaxy.
2011 was Donovan’s most successful year yet at the Galaxy, as he inspired Bruce Arena’s side to a MLS Cup and MLS Supporters’ Shield double. We are now delighted to offer you the chance to own his signed LA Galaxy and USA shirts. Welcome to Icons, Landon.
