David Beckham: The World's Most Famous Footballer

Icons don’t get much bigger than David Beckham. The East London-born megastar has enjoyed the spotlight, for better or worse, ever since making his breakthrough at Manchester United back in 1995. His signature is one of the most sought-after on the planet, and we are delighted to welcome him to Icons.

David Beckham was the star of Manchester United’s all-conquering team of the late 90s and early 2000s. In nine glorious seasons at Old Trafford, Beckham dazzled from the right side of midfield, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the 1998-99 Champions League, to go with a flood of individual accolades.

It was on the first day of the 1996-97 season, however, that Beckham became a real household name, when he famously chipped Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan from the half-way line. It was an sublime moment of inspiration and an unforgettable goal which helped him on his way to winning that year’s PFA Young Player of the Year Award. He never looked back.

For England, Beckham has enjoyed a whirlwind career of highs and lows. His stunning, trademark free-kick in stoppage time against Greece helped England into the 2002 World Cup finals, for example, but his notorious sending off against Argentina later caused many fans to turn on him. With 115 caps he is the second most-capped player in England’s history, and his contribution and dedication for his country will never be forgotten.

Beckham signed for Real Madrid for £25m in 2003, and won the 2006-07 La Liga title before joining MLS side LA Galaxy. Beckham has become a figurehead for American soccer, and enhanced his reputation as a global icon since moving stateside. He has also enjoyed two successful periods on loan at Italian giants AC Milan.

While, at 37, Beckham may be in the twilight of his playing career, he looks set to continue his involvement in sport for many years to come. We are delighted to offer you the rare chance to own a product adorned with his signature.
