Not only is it a great time to be a fan of Spanish football, it's also bloody hard not to be. Having spent the best part of fifty years as perennial bottlers, the national side have established themselves as the best in the world, patenting their thrilling, incomparable brand of tiki-taka, to the delight of all and sundry.

The emergence of La Furia Roja has coincided with the dominance of Barcelona, who many commentators have described as the "greatest team ever." So taken with what they've seen emanating from the Iberian Peninsula, the English media have demanded that the FA do everything in their power to emulate what the Spanish have done at a grassroots level, but whether we'll ever see Englishman grace a field with such elegance is questionable. 

We at Icons have championed the Spanish game and the finest purveyors of it for many years. Given the current zeitgeist for Spanish memorabilia, we thought there would be no better way to kick off The Great Icons Summer Sale by slashing prices on some of our favourite pieces from some of our favourite Spanish or Spanish based players.

There can be little doubting the fact that La Liga plays host to the best players in the world. For the past four seasons, the top three players of the FIFA World Player of the Year either ply or have plied their trade in the Spanish top flight. Last year, the top three were all based in La Liga, a statistic reflected in the inaugural FIFA Ballon d'Or results.

The Icons team are delighted to announce our presence at the Total Football Show, taking place later this week in Telford, Shropshire. We'll be at stand E1 of the expo, which will also be attended by such football luminaries as Gary Speed, Ade Akinbiyi, Kevin Phillips and Steve Bull. Icons will be taking a full range of signed merchandise, available at fantastic prices. The event, which runs from 8th - 10th of July, will feature guest talks by the aforementioned players, as well as referees' chief Keith Hackett, former Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee and Walsall coach Dean Smith. 

As well as having the chance to pick up some great merchandise and advice from the seminars, attendees will be able to watch two underage football tournaments and participate in twice daily coaching sessions. We're delighted at icons to have completed our third official signing session with Barcelona and Argentina striker Lionel Messi.

Alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi is currently regarded as the world's best footballer and we are pleased that they both choose only to sign merchandise with the world's fastest growing and most reputable sports memorabilia shop online.

Leo was in fine form when we met him in Barcelona the day after the club's frustrating goalless draw with Chelsea. Although not naturally gregarious, he was joking and chatting throughout, and has clearly become comfortable carrying the weight of expectations from fans of both Barca and Argentina. Three years ago he was shy and quiet - now when he was mobbed by fans in the hotel lobby, he seemed to find it amusing.

He was confident the Catalans could get a result at Stamford Bridge; and Iniesta's injury-time goal proved him right.

Leo signed a range of shirts for us; Barcelona home, Barcelona away, Argentina home and Argentina away. He also autographed a number of photos for us, including a reprint montage of his Maradona wonder goal, which sold out so quickly last time.
